| Introduction : Polarization
multiplexing (PolMux) is becoming an attractive solution for doubling
fiber data transfer capacity : Two independent signals are simultaneously
transmitted on two orthogonal polarization states. Time-Polarization multiplexing or interleaving is also a technique used to reduce the nonlinear penalty and inter symbol interference resulting from chromatic dispersion and polarization-mode dispersion (PMD). With this technique, adjacent bits are orthogonally polarized. The polarization diversity design of the AP2440A series Optical Complex Spectrum Analyzers has a unique built-in feature, designed to analyze these two independently modulated signals, permitting life measurements of two orthogonal polarization states simultaneously. The below is a measurement example of two orthogonally polarized 40Gb/s NRZ-QPSK. |
